I grew up in Simi Valley, California, a very small seven-exit town. I moved to Colorado in 1999 with my husband, whose family had started moving here one-by-one. We came to visit and we fell in love. None of my family lives out here but I am lucky to have a very strong relationship with my ex-husband’s family.
The first time we came to visit Colorado, it was fall. I couldn’t believe the beauty of the trees and the crispness of the air. I was sold!
After we visited a few more times, in the winter and once on Mother’s Day, we decided to just “look” at houses in the area. We fell in love and bought a house. We then had to go back to California and break it to our friends and families. I have never regretted my decision.
After 10 years of trying to have a child we were blessed with our little girl, Charlotte, who just turned 13. We are the people you read about, the ones who start the adoption process and wind up conceiving. She is our miracle and our blessing. Wise beyond her years and the funniest person I know. She is the love of my life.
Of power equipment and hypnotherapy
I work full time at Hartigan Power Equipment as an Inside Sales Associate and the Marketing Coordinator.
My other “job” is as a certified Hypnotherapist. Both of my careers are rewarding and challenging. At HPE I work with an amazing group of people. The owner is a pioneer in her field and I am proud to work for a woman owned business. The office manager is someone I consider as “my person”. We spend a lot of time together and our strength as a team helps me in work and in my personal life.
I enjoy the creative side of this job. I created the website for HPE and for Pathway Hypnotherapy, my other love. I am my best when I can stretch creatively. I also create and manage the marketing for both.
Becoming a hypnotist
I decided to become a hypnotist after being hypnotized several times by a very good friend of mine, Becky, who helped me get through the grieving process after my father passed. We got to know the ins and outs of each other over a year’s time. She suggested I become a hypnotherapist.
The first time I hypnotized someone and saw the value and how it helped my client I was hooked.
Glaciers and beaches
This last summer I learned to Kayak. My girlfriend Tammy and I kayaked most of the summer. I went to Alaska for a week to visit one of my best friends and was able to kayak through waters I never would have been able to a year ago. My passion for walking led to hiking and I was able to hike a glacier while in Alaska as well.
I enjoy and miss the ocean. I grew up going to the ocean whenever it struck me. As a kid my sister and I would dig for clams for hours and drive our dune buggy right on the beach in Pismo. My mom would sometimes take us out of school on a beautiful day just to go be in the ocean.
I love to swim and there is nothing like being in the ocean, from Malibu to Redondo - and Hawaii when I am really lucky.
Learning to fall
Several years ago, I had to do a team building event at a ropes course. I was terrified of heights and was anxious for days leading up to the event. One by one a lady would put on a harness and climb a telephone poll then walk across it and then lean backwards and fall. Not all of them were able to make it up or across let alone fall backwards. Many of them would give up as we cheered them on. I was the last person… the last holdout.
I had insisted I wasn’t going to do this, that I had nothing to prove. When the last person was done it struck me that I would be very upset with myself if I didn’t at least try. I harnessed up, climbed up without stopping and walked across the pole and fell backwards without a second thought.
This was one of the most liberating experiences in my life. I am no longer afraid of heights and from that moment forward thrive on new experiences.
My goal is to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia with my daughter and mother.
