The sledding was 3 ½ hours of council listening to over 50 speakers, many with proven dedication to Westminster - Ann Merkel, Mark Kaiser, Ann Ragsdale - but everyone with a heartfelt position to share. Most implored council not to force our citizens into a city-mandated trash program. Most assured council that they are adults and could make choices that are best for them and their personal situations.
Council then recessed the comments and asked those signed-up speakers to return on Feb. 27 to resume their comments and tried to finish our agenda.
But my colleagues jumped over councilor comments. I had been waiting for three weeks to respond to the savage attack I endured at council on January 23rd. My colleagues did not allow that. Rather than meekly submit, I fought. I made council consider, separately, each of the 17 items from the consent agenda. It was ugly and time-consuming.
Listening to the comments I had prepared would have saved half an hour of everyone's time. However, my colleagues feel only hate and contempt for me. The way I am treated shows all the words they say about being a Welcoming Community, inclusion and valuing diversity as hollow. I do not look forward to the next time skiing.
