Graduation 2017

Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts graduate Tahlia Lucero

Lucero has been National Honor Society president, captain of the swimming team, chief editor of the yearbook, a peer mediator, and involved in CU Boulder's Pre-Collegiate program and UC Berkeley's Summer Focus program. She will attend the University of Denver with a full-ride scholarship from the Boettcher Foundation.

What profession or career do you want to pursue? Why?

I want to become an Imagineer working for Disney creating and designing rides. Every year my mom would take my sister and me to Disneyland, and I fell in love with how the rides function, the effects and the queues of each individual ride. I want to be able to make other people as happy as I was with each ride.

What do you hope to accomplish in life?

I want to prove that women are allowed in the male-dominated STEM fields, and specifically a Latina.

I want to be an inspiration for other girls growing up to have a role model, especially since there are limited numbers of women in engineering alone. With this, I want to be happy knowing that I have created a pathway for others to follow.

If I could do anything, it would be to ...

Pay off my mom's college loans worth $75,000. I know that the worst weight on a person is financial debt, so I would relieve my mom of the burden.
