Credit union sock drive delivers

A drive spearheaded by Canvas Credit Union delivered 6,450 pairs of donated socks to several Colorado homeless shelters in December 2018.Donations were collected in November and December at all 27 Canvas locations.

This is the third year Canvas has worked with local Colorado communities during the annual sock drive. In that time, the credit union gathered more than 16,680 pairs of socks and hand delivered them to local homeless shelters.

New hours at DMV

All Adams County Motor Vehicle offices began offering expanded business hours Jan. 2, 2019.

The new hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the general public and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for companies and dealers. After 4 p.m., one transaction will be permitted per company/dealer.

These new hours will bring consistency with general Adams County office hours and throughout the Clerk and Recorder’s offices—which includes Elections, Motor Vehicle, and Recording.

Blood bank thanks donors with beer promotion

Donors that give a pint of blood to Front Range blood bank Vitalant through Jan. 31 can get a free beverage during the “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” promotion.

During the promotion, everyone donates blood at a Vitalant center in Colorado and Wyoming or a mobile blood drive receives a voucher for a free Draft House pint of beer or soda. The vouchers are good for redemption the following day at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Breweries, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant and Old Chicago Pizza and Taprooms in Colorado and Wyoming.

Thornton Walk steps off

Thornton’s annual community walk program begins Jan. 12 with as seven-mile loop beginning at the Carpenter Recreation Center.

The walk begins promptly at 9 a.m. and will go through eight different parks maintained by the city. This trail is mostly paved and has very few hills and walkers should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

This is a monthly fitness program designed to help develop or maintain a consistent fitness program. Thornton Recreation Staff lead different walks each month, with treks of varying distances that explore the many different trails around the community. Come alone or bring a spouse, neighbors, children and your dog.

The February walk will be on Feb. 9. Those interested in participating future walks should send their email address to Discover@cityofthornton.net.
