Thornton native tapped to manage new shopping mall

A Thornton native will helm the city’s newest shopping center when it opens later this year.

Josh Kalkhorst, a former Thornton resident was named as the new general manager for the Denver Premium Outlets currently under construction. Kalkhorst most recently was the general manager of the Simon Property Group’s Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California. The Simon group is owner and builder of the outlet mall.

Kalkhorst will be in charge of marketing the mall, leasing space in it as well as customer service and community relations, according to a Simon company press release.

Work began last October.

The new shopping center is due to open this fall at the northeastern corner of Interstate 25 and 136th Ave. When it’s finished in September, the site will host 330,000 square feet of retail space with room for 80 retail outlet stores.

Indianapolis-based Simon operates retail operations throughout the country, ranging from luxury malls to mills — like Lakewood’s Colorado Mills — and premium outlets. The outlets feature retailers such as Ralph Lauren and Coach.

The company also named University of Colorado graduate Jolene Bracy as Director of Marketing and Business Development for the mall. She leaves her position communications specialist for Jefferson County Human Services department to take the job with the Simon group.
