City installs People’s Choice winner

Fox Run Parkway is now home to a 32-inch-high bronze sculpture depicting a mother coyote and her two pups.

The sculpture, on the west side of Fox Run between 108th Drive and 109th Avenue, is the 2012 winner of the Art on Parade’s People’s Choice award and was created by artist James Paulsen of Minnesota. The city installed the piece on Tuesday, June 26.

The Northglenn Arts Humanities Foundation bought the piece for $6,000 and gave it to the city for permanent installation.

“It’s a way to invest in the city,” Northglenn Cultural Programs Supervisor Michael Stricker said, adding that art adds to the quality of life for residents.

Several factors, including pedestrian and car traffic, play a part when deciding where to install the art pieces, Stricker said.

The other 11 past winners of the “People’s Choice” award are: “What’s Next Dad?” (2002 winner) at Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Drive; “Hop to It” (2003), Croke Reservoir, Huron Street and Naiad Drive; “My Buddy” (2004), Happy Tails Dog Park, Leroy and Irma drives; “The Potato Man” (2005), City Hall, 11701 Community Center; “The Orphans” (2006), Northwest Open Space, West 112th Avenue and Ranch Drive; “High Four” (2007) Fox Run, Fox Run Parkway; “Imagine That” (2008), Wyco Park, 116th Avenue and Wyco Drive; “Ascension” (2009), Winburn Park, Huron Street and W. 112th ; “Double Spinner” (2010), roundabout at Melody and Kennedy drives; and “Blooming Pink Amaryllis Bulb” (2011), City Hall.
