The 2019 softball runs for Legacy and Holy Family high schools came to a close Oct. 25th and 26th respectively — ending excellent seasons for both powerhouse programs.
Legacy — the 5A No. 7 seed — fell to eventual champion, Columbine, 7-5 in the quarterfinals despite a 4-run effort in the final two innings on Friday. The Lady Lightning will be right back in the running next year as four seniors in Riley Olson, Hannah Farley, Samantha Conradie and Micah Bernard vacate manager Dawn Gaffin’s successful program.
Holy Family (4A No. 2 seed) also fell to an eventual champion in Cinderella Story and No. 14 seed, Erie, 9-5. The Lady Tigers had defeated Erie twice in the regular season en route to their 25-2 (14-0 in conference) record. However, losing just two seniors in Anna Martinez and Noelle Gardon, HF will be back.
“Our two seniors came up big all year long, and they both had great games today (Saturday),” Holy Family manager Mitchell Martinez said after the defeat to Erie. “This team battles, they are a wonderful team. We knew we had some spots to fill in, and we had people doing things that hadn’t done it, and I thought they did a great job. I love this team, they work hard, and that’s all you can ever ask for kids.”
