Not drinking the Uplands Kool-Aid
Regarding Bill Christopher’s Oct. 8 piece (“What is `Uplands Community Collective’ and what can it do?”), I take issue with Handlin and Kornacki’s vision.
I hate to disrupt this pastoral scene, but what about the vision of the neighbors? If asked, those who live nearby would overwhelmingly reject Uplands “new urbanism” and their plans to cement over the Westminster Farm with 2,350 units, which means probably 5,000-6,000 residents accompanied with water, traffic, and infrastructure issues.
Mr. Kornacki has one thing right. “The Uplands development would not require the city of Westminster or surrounding residents to incur any cost involving sidewalks, roadways, infrastructure…”
Of course not. If Oread Development gets a special Metro Tax District status, their board will tax Uplands residents and pay the developers back with interest.
I, like Christopher, am not anti-growth and not against development. However, I do not intend to take a sip of the Upland developer’s Kool-Aid.
