Monica Broncucia-Jordan, candidate for Adams County Coroner

Party: Democrat

City: Brighton

Profession: Coroner, Adams and Broomfield Counties

What makes you the best choice for this office?

I possess the education, experience, and training necessary to competently perform the duties of Coroner. As the current Coroner, I have successfully demonstrated this for the past eight years. Undergraduate studies: pre-medicine; graduate studies: forensic science and healthcare administration; forensic pathology training; state and national board certifications in death investigation. I am also the chairperson for the state board statutorily responsible for ensuring that all coroners in the state of Colorado are adequately trained.

What must an effective Coroner accomplish?

An effective Coroner must fulfill the duties of the office as prescribed by law, primarily ensuring that all deaths within the office's purview are investigated in accordance with established forensic standards, in an effort to accurately certify the manner and cause of death. An effective Coroner ensures that deaths are investigated by competent and trained personnel and monitors community death trends in order to educate, advocate and improve the lives and longevity of the community.

What traits are crucial for a Coroner to possess?

A Coroner must possess competence and compassion as well as a commitment and passion to serve in a field that daily intersects with death and tragedy. As the organizational head, a Coroner must also be a skilled leader. Additionally, as with any public servant profession, integrity and responsible government are also crucial.

What will your top priority be, if elected?

If re-elected I will continue to ensure that the community and organizational stakeholders are served by an office that operates as competently as possible, with highly trained staff. I will also finalize the pursuit of national and international accreditation for the office through the National Association of Medical Examiners and the International Association of Coroners/Medical Examiners.

What else should voters know about you?

I have served as Coroner since 2011 and sit on multiple community boards focused on public health awareness and death prevention. This field is my passion. I have worked hard to build an office that is well regarded and held with high esteem in the community and the greater forensic community. It has been an honor to serve Adams County through caring for the departed and I hope that my service has earned your support.
