I want to thank Mr. Christopher for his reporting on Westminster City Council’s selection of a new council member (Jan. 3 “Awarding the work that goes into community building”).
I knew nothing about Emerge Colorado, but the association with certain council members explains how such a quick selection was made from 45 candidates. I agree with him that the city should have had a special election to vote on three new members, but the three leaving members timed their resignations to circumvent this.
I attended the meeting and listened to all the praise council members heaped upon themselves about how well they have done their jobs and somehow equated that with the large number of applicants. Most of us realize that more interest is paid to government when people are not pleased with their representatives.
This method of selection just helps prove to me how some of the members disregard the will of the people of this city. I am sure the next two selections will just further prove that some council members have their own agenda and don’t really mind that we all are aware of it.
