Raiders draft former Legacy standout Kasa in sixth round

BROOMFIELD - Former Legacy star Nick Kasa will be taking his talents to Oakland next season.

Kasa, who is played tight end for CU, was drafted on Saturday by the Raiders in the sixth round with the 172nd overall selection.

He caught 25 passes for 391 yards and had three touchdowns as a senior for the Buffs in his first season as a tight end.

HULBERT MAKES FIRST TEAM ALL-RMAC

Nicole Hulbert, a 2011 graduate from Pomona, was chosen to the All-RMAC women’s golf first team.

Lara Pocs, a 2009 graduate of Holy Family, was also chosen to the All-RMAC third team.

REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Area girls’ golf teams will open regional play this week.

Holy Family and Skyview played Tuesday and Wednesday in the Class 4A Region 5 tournament, which was played at the Broomfield City Courts. In Class 5A, both Legacy and Thornton played Tuesday and Wednesday in the Region 1 tournament at Cherry Creek. Northglenn will finish up the Region 5 tournament today at City Park.

WOLVERINES STAY PERFECT IN SOCCER

Skyview girls’ soccer team continued its domination, topping Fort Morgan 10-0 on April 25.

The Wolverines haven’t let an opponent score since April 4 and are now 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the Colorado 7 League.

JAGUARS BEAT TIGERS

Sophomore Alycia Wright scored a second-half goal to help Jefferson Academy girls’ soccer team beat Holy Family 1-0 on April 25.

Heidi Wendt was credited with the assist, while goalkeeper Maddie Lewis had seven saves.

LIGHTNING TOP LAMBKINS

Jake Bublitz went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to help Legacy baseball top Fort Collins 11-5 on April 27.

The Lightning, who have won six in a row, scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to get the win.

Legacy (8-4 overall, 4-0 Front Range League) also beat Loveland 12-2 on April 25. Hunter Parnell went 3 for 4 with a two RBIs.

TIGERS 11TH AT LOBOCAT ROUNDUP

Holy Family boys and girls track teams finished 11th at the Lobocat Roundup on April 25.

Ryan Younggreen took first in the boys’ 110 and fourth in the 300 hurdles

Katrina Gallic was second in the girls’ shotput and fourth in the javelin throw for the Tigers.

Thornton’s Sean Paiz was second in the boys’ 3,200 meter run, while his teammate Mario Vielma was fourth.

Horizon’s Megan Mooney was fourth in the girls’ 800 and 1600 run.

SWIMMING RANKINGS

Standley Lake boys swimming team is currently ranked 14th in the state, while Pomona is 18th.

Eric Ung has the second fastest time in state in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 59.80 seconds.

Ung also has the seventh fastest time in the 100-butterfly, as well as the seventh fastest time in the 200-freestyle and is also 19th in the 200-individual medley.

WILDCATS CONTINUE TO ROLL

The Academy cruised to a 5-0 win over Sheridan on April 25 to improve to 7-0-1 overall and 7-0 in the 3A Regional 8 League.

Raeanne Sanchez scored four goals in the win.

SEWALD LIFTS STANDLEY LAKE

Justin Sewald pitched a complete game four-hitter and had six strike outs to help Standley Lake beat Columbine 3-2 on Saturday.

Matt Fujinami helped the Gators top Arvada West 6-5 on April 25. Fujinami went 4 for 4 with four RBIs, two doubles and a home run.

Standley Lake (8-6 overall, 2-2 Jeffco League) also fell to Bear Creek 7-1 on April 26.

NORSE PERFECT IN EMAC

Northglenn topped Gateway 12-0 on April 25 to improve to 4-0 in the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference.

The Norse did come up short against Ponderosa on Saturday, falling 9-8. Northglenn scored four runs in the sixth to cut the lead to one run.

LEGACY SOCCER PICK UP TWO FRL WINS

The Lightning won back-to-back games against FRL rivals.

Legacy (11-2, 8-1 FRL) beat Fort Collins 3-2 on April 25 and Loveland 3-0 on April 26.
