Ross poised to claim Weld Commission seat

Former Eaton Mayor and Weld County Commissioner Kevin Ross look to be ready to claim the at-large County Commission seat in June 28 voting.

Ross, of Eaton, was leading Kersey entrepreneur Elijah Hatch 17,413 votes to 9,512 in the county's Republican primary as of 9:23 p.m. June 8. Since no Democrats threw their hats in the ring, the Republican winner will be the next County Commissioner.

The winner will replace outgoing and term-limited Commissioner Steve Moreno.

The rest of Weld County government is equally settled. Commission Chair Scott James had no competition on Tuesday's Republican ballot and no Democrats, either. James claimed 8,911 votes in the unofficial tally.

The same is true for County Clerk and Recorder Carly Koppes, Assessor Brenda Dones and Sheriff Steve Reams.
