Horizon pushed over a run in the fifth inning and beat Fossil Ridge 1-0- in Thornton Sept. 28.

The two teams were atop the standings in the Front Range League and rated in the top two slots of the most recent CHSAA class 5A softball polls.

Marisol Miranda's double drove in Madison Vollmar with the game's only run. Alexis Mohr added a pair of hits to the Hawks' effort. Vollmar threw a complete game, allowed three hits and struck out nine.

Lizzy Browning, Brooklyn Cardenas and Katelyn Hayes had the Sabercats' basehits. Pitcher Nikki McGaffin struck out 11.
