PULLMAN, Wash. -Nick Kasa was as good as it gets during Colorado's miraculous victory over Washington State on Saturday.
With the Buffs down 31-14 in the fourth quarter, the senior tight end and former Legacy star caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from CU quarterback Jordan Webb to spur the Buffs 35-34 comeback win over the Cougars.
Kasa, who is listed at 6-foot-6, 260-pounds, finished the game with three catches for 87 yards to help CU (1-3 overall) win its Pac-12 opener.
Scott Fernandez, who also graduated from Legacy, is also a tight end for the Buffs.
DUAL MEDALIST: Alonso Wong, who trains with Northglenn Judo Club, won bronze and gold medals at the Pan American Championship and South American Judo Championship on Sept. 8-9. The tournaments were held at Cali, Columbia.
Wong, who wrestled at Mountain Range, competed in the 145-pound class and also attended the 2012 Olympic Games in London as an alternate for Peru.
RUN WITH THE WOLVES: Tanner Reid finished first overall at the Run with the Wolves 5K and Kids Fun Run, which began at Westminster High School on Saturday.
Tasha Wheatley won the women's division of the race.
TAKING FIRST: Legacy's Emma Gee took first at the John Martin Invitational to help the Lightning girls finish 10th.
Gee finished the race in 18 minutes, 30.3 seconds, her teammate Melanie Nun took third with a time of 18:50.3.
Mountain Range came in 17th, Thornton was 19th and Westminster was 22nd.
Thornton boys team took second at the invite with a score of 117 with Mario Vielma, Jose Garcia and Josh Joseph finishing 7-8-9.
Mountain Range took 10th, while Legacy was 19th.
ON A ROLL: Since losing to Monarch on Sept. 4 the Holy Family softball team has won six in a row and has outscored its opponents 87-8. The Eagles are now 13-1 and 4-0 in the Metro League.
Holy Family scored 13 runs in the fourth inning to top Jefferson Academy 25-0 on Tuesday. Twelve different players scored a run in the game.
Kaycie Wood hit a home run and had six RBIs in the victory.
WIZARD INVITE: Legacy's No. 1 doubles team of Dave and Mike Rosencrans took first at the Windsor Wizard Invitational, while Mountain Range's Jacob Taylor and Grady Edan won at No. 4 doubles.
Mountain Range finished third and Legacy took fourth.
Legacy's Shadrach Karlson and Toshio Holmes took second at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 doubles team of Mark Olson and Brian Heng were second at No. 3 doubles.
PERFECT IN LEAGUE: The Academy volleyball team improved to 5-0 in the Frontier League after sweeping Tuesday's match with Platte Canyon.
Stephanie Sparks had three aces and four kills for the Wolverines, who are 7-7 overall.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran beat Shining Mountain on Friday to improve to 2-0 in the 5280 League.
