Holy Family's boys basketball team doesn't mind the No. 17 seed in this year's class 4A state boys basketball tournament, nor does it mind the third quarter.
The Tigers rode a 23-point third quarter to an easy, 60-43 win over eighth-seeded Colorado Academy at the Denver Coliseum March 3. Earlier in the tournament, Holy Family used a 31-point third quarter to oust the top seed, Kent Denver.
The win over the Mustangs sends HFHS into the semifinals Thursday, March 9, against Eagle Ridge Academy. Tip time is 12:45 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Coliseum.
Holy Family made 11, 3-point baskets in the win over Colorado Academy. Five of them came in the decisive third period. George Buyers led the Mustangs with 11 points. Jason Brats was close behind with 10. Gabe Tafoya led the Tigers with 18 points, including four baskets from the 3-point line. Eric Quintana tossed in 13, and Rocco Bridges poured in 11.
