DENVER -- Three of Legacy High School's doubles teams advanced in the playback round of the state girls 5A tennis tournament at Gates Tennis Center last week. But none was able to place.
At No. 2 doubles, the Lightning's Emma Nguyen and Ava Klein made it through one round of playbacks before their season ended. The two advanced by beating Alina Mali and Caitlyn Mortimer of Legend High School 6-0, 6-3 in the opening round. But in the quarterfinals, Fairview's Jane Roth and Maya Brahkage beat the Lightning pair 6-0, 6-3.
In the playback round, Arapahoe's Aylya Fiske and Avery Johnson beat Nguyem amd Klein in three sets.
The No. 3 doubles team (Kady Vu and Emily Smith) won its first playback match, a 6-3, 6-0 win over ThunderRidge's Tyler Bills and Kathryn Thompson. But Fairview's Mia Grayson and Emily Hao gutted out a 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to eliminate Vu and Smith from the tournament
The pair split two earlier matches in the tournament. They beat Sienna Gechter and Savanna Mattas of Fruita Monument 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round before losing to . Ralston Valley's Zoey Prokopyschyn and Parker Lucas in the quarterfinals.
The Lightning's No. 4 doubles team (Sydney Williams and Megan Anthony) made it to the first round of playback matches. Katherine Sarko and Kora Ziegler of Heritage beat the Lightning pair 6-2, 6-2 in that round of playbacks, bring an end to the season for Williams and Anthony.
Earlier in the tournament, the twosome lost to Cherry Creek's Kate Erickson and Zoey Hao 6-1, 6-2. Because Erickson and Hao advanced through the quarterfinals, Williams and Anthony made it to the playback round.
At No. 1 singles, Legacy's Eileen Tran split her two matches on opening day. she beat Evy Sadeh of Fort Collins 6-, 6-1. Jacqueline Pearsall of Cherry Creek beat Tran 6-0, 6-1 in the second round.
At No. 1 doubles, Mountain Vista's Peyton Hostelley and Olivia Ivankoe beat Legacy's Megan Mari and Gracie Stapleton 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.
