AURORA -- Horizon High School hosts a class 5A regional round softball tournament starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.
The region 1 bracket sees the Hawks facing Highlands Ranch, while Rock canyon takes on Ralston Valley.
In region 3, Legacy hosts the four-team tournament. The Lightning take on Heritage and Cherokee Trail faces Rocky Mountain.
The format is the same for each tourney. The winners of the 10 a.m. games play at 12:15 p.m. for one of the state tournament berths. The two losing teams from the 10 a.m. games also play at 12;15. The winner of the consolation round game faces the losing from the 12:15 p.m. state-title qualifying game for the second state slot. That starts at 3 p.m.
The state tournament starts Friday, Oct. 22, at Aurora Sports Park, East Colfax Avenue east of Tower Road.
