Legacy's DeHerrera takes second in inaugural state meet


PUEBLO – Three of four Legacy wrestlers placed at the inaugural state girls wrestling tournament March 11 at the Southwest Motors Events Center.

At 215 pounds, Daysia Deherrera took second. Her only loss was to Calhan's Ciara Monger by pinfall. Her wins were against Vista Ridge's McKenna Reynolds, a pinfall win in the quarterfinals, and another pinfall win at the expense of Stefania Jaramillo of the Far Northeast Warriors.

Cordey Mallo took fourth at 118 pounds. She won her quarterfinal match against Mesa Ridge's Alexys Jacquez by a score of 9-8, and she won a consolation semifinal round match against Lewis-Palmer's Shenin Steele by a major, 10-2 decision. Her losses were by pinfall to Olathe's Nicole Koch and to Jacquez in the third-place match by a score of 10-5. 

Lola Valdez was sixth at 105 pounds. She beat Kiona Conner of Denver East in overtime in the quarterfinals. Her other matches were a pinfall loss to Persaeus Gomez of Pomona, a 5-0 loss to Loveland's Kelly Clingan in the consolation semifinals and a major decision, 8-0 loss to Eaglecrest's Katelyn Czerpak.

Brianna Rodriguez  lost both of her matches at 147 pounds and did not place.


Riverdale Ridge High School sent three wrestlers to state this year, and all three placed. 

Emmy Kiefer took fifth at 100 pounds. Her wins were in the first round of consolation matches, a pinfall win over Denver East’s KIana Suro, and the fifth-place match victory by pinfall over Candice Brickell of Doherty. In between, she lost to Mountain Vista’s Rosalind Ramos-Cruz 7-1 and to Fort Lupton’s Rylee Balcazar by pinfall in the consolation semifinals.

At 147 pounds, Scheccid Aguirre took fifth. She won her quarterfinal round match by pinning Douglas County’s Molli Pinello. Her other victory was in the fifth-place match where she beat Pinello a second time, this time by pinfall as well. 

Daisy Gonzalez was sixth at 127 pounds. She picked up a win in the first consolation round, a 4-2 decision over Eva Todd of Denver East. She lost by pinfall to Chatfield’s Savannah Cosme in the quarterfinals. Jayden Lange of Pomona pinned Gonzales in the consolation semifinals, and Vista Ridge’s Dakotah Livermore pinned Gonzales in the fifth-place match. Aspen Barber of Palmer Ridge pinned Aguirre in the semifinal round, and Alison Evans of Mesa Ridge pinned Aguirre in the consolation semifinal round.
