Thornton will add a class on tapestry weaving to its slate of arts and culture instruction programs this spring.

The city has opened registration for the Thornton Arts and Culture Division’s 2021 spring art classes for youth and adults. These five-week online sessions continue on February 10 and March 17 with online instruction on drawing, painting and mixed media each Wednesday through April 14.

A new weekend tapestry weaving class for adults also begins on April 3. Register for all classes at gocot.net/registration or call 720-977-5882 for more information.

“As the epidemic becomes less of a threat, we’re offering more art enrichment opportunities in person,” says Arts and Culture Manager Alisa Zimmerman. “An example is the popular tapestry weaving class which has been rescheduled twice due to COVID-19 restrictions.”

Accomplished Colorado-based tapestry artist, David Johnson, will teach adult students the basics of hand-weaving from 1 to 4 p.m. on three Saturdays - April 3, 17 and May 1 - at the Trail Winds Recreation Center, 13495 Holly Street, in Thornton.

Youth can sign up for continuing art sessions as the theme changes every five weeks. Each session is $40 per student and will be taught online due to COVID-19 guidelines. A link to each class will be sent to registered students. All class supplies are included in the fee and can be picked up at the Thornton Arts and Culture Center, 9209 Dorothy Blvd, on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, between 12 and 3 p.m. Email Lisa.Neeper@ThorntonCO.gov for a time.
