Thornton Council picks Bedolla to fill vacant seat

A 10-year Thornton resident will join the City Council, the other members agreed Jan. 28

Councilors voted to appoint Angela Marie Bedolla to fill the Ward 4 Council Member position left vacant after November’s election.

Bedolla was scheduled to be sworn in at the City Council’s meeting Feb. 4.

Councilors spent several hours at their Jan. 21 meeting, interviewing eight applicants to fill a vacancy created when Jan Kulmann, the previous Ward 4 Council Member, was elected Thornton Mayor.

Thornton’s City Charter requires the sitting council and mayor to vote on the selection of someone to fill a vacant position. Bedolla will complete the final two years of Kulmann’s Ward 4 councilor term, which is set to end in 2021.

In her application, Bedolla said one of her two key issues is building a healthy and sustainable community with infrastructure and transportation amenities are critical to Thornton’s success. She also called for redevelopment that bridges the northern and southern sections of the city.

Bedolla works as Corporate Economic Development operations for Xcel Energy. She is also involved in several local organizations, including the Adams 12 Leadership Academy, Adams 12 Long Range Planning Advisory Committee and the Adams County Economic Development Business Retention and Expansion. She also serves as an Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities Board Member and attends ThornCreek Church.
