Westminster voters should be heard

There are three vacancies on Westminster City Council. Ms. Pinter and Ms. Bird have been elected to different public offices and Ms. De Cambra has taken a position with the Governor-elect’s organization.

According to the plain meaning of the City Charter a special election needs to be held to fill those vacancies.

That does not appear to be happening. It seems as if the Council is rushing to fill De Cambra’s seat before Pinter and Bird tender their resignations. While there may be an argument about this being legally correct, this certainly violates the intent and spirit of the City Charter.

There is time for Council to live up to their claim of support for the democratic process by calling a special election to fill the vacancies. I think even Bill Christopher would agree with me on this issue.
